FLUX

July 13, 2023

FLUX, performed mid 2022, was an interdisciplinary collaboration exploring flow, the beauty of the sublime and the push and pull of human emotion through an intersection of dance, music, film and drawing. The artistic mediums involved included improvised jazz music, contemporary dance and performative drawing; as well as material elements such as sand, charcoal, paper and field recordings.

Throughout a month-long residency and development process at Articulate project space, we began to develop a narrative that was larger than simply being vessels to interpret the sound. The process became centred around our individualistic and collective experiences of being two women of the Asian Australian diaspora, and the longing to find one another, or another version of the self.

Reina Takeuchi

I’m an Australian-Japanese visual artist, dance maker, curator-researcher and facilitator.

This blog follows the development of research projects including my Master of Philosophy project Bodies of Transmission and my most recent ventures into PhD. It collates ideas, links, images, videos and scrawls that relate back to my practice-led research on the interplay between choreography, visual arts and transcultural experience.
